Caper's Island is a public but completely undeveloped island that can only be reached by boat. Nature lovers this is one you certainly want to add to your bucket list. With an array of naturally occuring habitat common wildlife sightings include bottlenose dolphins, bald eagles, and numerous shore and wading birds. The most iconic wonder of Capers Island is "Boneyard Beach." Over time erosion has marooned palmetto and oak trees washing the earth out from under them. The trees die and leave sun bleached skeletons of what once stood which is where the "bone yard" name comes from. The biodeversity of the island's many ecosystems includes forest, beach, salt water march, and acres of brackish ponds which make for equally diverse wildlife.
When you hear the phrase "southern charm" the picture that paints most likley closely resembles Sullivan's Island. Most known for it's long history, it played a critical role in the American Revolution, Civil War and World War II. As an island life is a little bit slower which provides a break from the hustle and bustle of downtown Charleston but not without providing some great shopping and delicious dining options. The pristine beaches of Sullivan's Island provide amazing views of the Atlantic making it a great place to enjoy some breathtaking scenery and that laid back souther vibe. Historic points of interest include Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumter National Monument as well as Sullivan Island's Lighthouse the "Charleston Light." The Island has several hiking and biking trails that provide the island's natural beauty as well as local wildlife.
