Charleston, SC Harbor

Your Floating Tour Guide To Charleston Harbor

Float through American history on our Charleston Harbor cruise. The harbor was first used by the English settlers that established Charles Town in 1670. Charleston Harbor played a critical role in the city's growth and prosperity, which also made it a target for foreign enemies and pirates. After an unsucessful attack by French and Spanish forces in 1706 the first fort was built in 1708 on James Island. Ten years later the infamous Blackbeard the pirate blockaded the port of Charleston for almost a week, a few months later Blackbeard met his end off the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Fort Sumter National Monument & The USS Yorktown CV-10 are relics of a very active strategic military history. Did you know the attack on Fort Sumter was the official start of the Civil War? Get a new perspective on history in every sense of the word, and what isn't a bit more fun with a few cocktails?

Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge
Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge

Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge

The 3rd Longest Cable Stay Bridge in the West

The Arthur Ravenel Jr Bridge broke ground in 2001 and was officially opened for transit August of 2005. Spanning a total of 2.7 miles across the lower Cooper River connecting Charleston to Mount Pleasant.

For those local to or familiar with Charleston you've likely had the less than great expierience of seeing every inch of the deck every so slowly as you creep across in the que of traffic. We prefer to appreciate this marvel of design build architecture from a bit of a different angle, literally. We offer incredible perspectives on the bridge during the day and in the evenings when the entire bridge turns into your own personal light show.

Morris Island Lighthouse

Morris Island Lighthouse

Established 1886 The Tallest Lighthouse In SC

The Morris Island Lighthouse is a decommisioned relic of Charleston's history. When originally constructed the lighthouse was approximately 1,200 feet from the shoreline. Due to altered currents in the harbor that were a result of the creation of jetties to protect the shipping lanes errosion destroyed the existing buildings on the island. By 1938 the shoreline reached the lighthouse making it too dangerous for manned operation and became automated. The Morris Lighthouse was replaced by "The Charleston Light" on the northern side of the harbor. Just one of many unique sights to see on our Charleston Harbor cruises.

See The Guardians of Charleston Harbor

Fort Sumter is a sea fort built on an artificial island protecting Charleston, SC from naval invasion. Originating in 1812 it was still incomplete in 1861 when the Battle of Fort Sumter began the American Civil War. In 1863 union rifled artillery reduced Fort Sumter to ruins and Confederate repairs to Fort Sumter transformed the former three-tiered brick and masonry fort into an earthwork that exists as it is seen today.

USS Yorktown CV-10

USS Yorktown CV-10

World War II Essex-Class Aircraft Carrier

The USS Yorktown CV-10 was commisioned December 1, 1941 at Newport News, VA just six days before the attack on Pearl Harbor. The USS Yorktown remained in commision until June 27, 1970 and was donated to the Patriot's Point Development Authority of Charleston, SC where it remains open to the public to this day. While you can't access the carrier from the water you will be able to appreciate this highly decorated ship from a perspective you can not get anywhere but from the water.

An Eco-Tourist's Dream Come True

Caper's Island is a public but completely undeveloped island that can only be reached by boat. Nature lovers this is one you certainly want to add to your bucket list. With an array of naturally occuring habitat common wildlife sightings include bottlenose dolphins, bald eagles, and numerous shore and wading birds. The most iconic wonder of Capers Island is "Boneyard Beach." Over time erosion has marooned palmetto and oak trees washing the earth out from under them. The trees die and leave sun bleached skeletons of what once stood which is where the "bone yard" name comes from. The biodeversity of the island's many ecosystems includes forest, beach, salt water march, and acres of brackish ponds which make for equally diverse wildlife.
